Cladistics, or phylogenetic systematics, is a system of classifying living and extinct organisms based on evolutionary ancestry as determined by grouping taxa according to "derived characters," that is characteristics or features shared uniquely by the taxa . While ultimately different disciplines, several theoretical and statistical approaches are shared. Is a new and general theory of molecular systematics emerging? We observe that superalignment methods usually outperform the other approaches over a wide range of parameters including sparse data and gene-specific evolutionary parameters. Confidence limits on phylogenies: an approach using the bootstrap. Exposure to both disciplines stimulates the production of new research ideas which may have otherwise not been previously appreciated. The Workshop has two focus areas: molecular phylogenetics and population genetics. Evolution with a strong emphasis on data analysis. Another approach, particularly useful in molecular evolution, involved applying the statistical analysis of maximum likelihood to select the most likely cladogram based on a specific probability model of changes. | CrossRef | CAS | Felsenstein, J. 2013 Workshop on Molecular Evolution, Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic Events / Conferences.
